NO NEW taxes will be needed if the States continues to control expenditure, Treasury minister Lyndon Trott said yesterday.

The department has released figures showing the latest economic position – and they paint a positive picture. Personal income tax receipts for 2007 increased by 6% in real terms, while others were £8.5m. more than anticipated.

It means that there will be enough in the capital reserve to enable the next House to spend £40m. on a major capital project such as a new school at either Les Beaucamps or La Mare de Carteret or mental health facilities.
