Guernsey play Jersey at Springfield two years’ ago. The match was marred by abuse meted out to the Guernsey players by Jersey fans.
GUERNSEY’S Star Trophy coach will take his team off the Springfield pitch today if they are subjected to abuse on a similar level to that they received the last time the schoolboy Muratti was held in Jersey.
In the 2006 match, disgraceful scenes saw the Guernsey team receive verbal abuse and the subs bench pelted with eggs, coins and carrots by a small number of adolescent Jersey spectators.
Also, while they were receiving their half-time team talk, a fan barged into their dressing room and threw a stink bomb. In a move to avoid such scenes, the under-15 game has been moved from its traditional 6pm start to a 1pm kick off. But Nick Roberts says he will not hesitate in taking his team off the pitch if are they subjected to this type of abuse again.
