Where in the world are you?

This is Guernsey is accessed by thousands of people every day, many of whom are islanders who have ‘upped sticks’ and gone to live elsewhere in the world.

But where are they all, exactly?

We’re hoping that this map will enable to us to see just how far afield our expats have spread.

Use the ‘comments’ form at the foot of this page to leave us your name and postcode, or the name of the town/city where you’re living, and we’ll mark it on our map.

    Does Sark count????

Great idea. I lived in Sark from 1945, when my mother and I were repatriated from Germany, where I was born, until 1953. I lived in Guernsey for 6 months before joining her in England where I have lived ever since. I rediscovered my Sark roots in 1993 and now go back to Sark every year. A few years ago I saw an entry in the visitors book at the Sark Methodist Chapel from one of the girls in the family I lived with in Guernsey. She had emigrated with her husband, also a Guernseyman in the 1950’s and was on a visit to the UK and Guernsey. I managed to meet up in England and now keep in regular contact. I listen on-line to BBC Radio Guernsey whenever possible.

  51. Steve Bisson

I was born in Guernsey 1944 and met my wife, Denise, in Birmingham in 1964. We married in 1967 and moved back to the Island where we raised our three children. We both took early retirement at the end of 2002 and moved to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in January 2003.We have settled into a comfortable life style and enjoy life to the full - we often wonder where we ever found the time to go to work! We keep in touch with our many friends in Guernsey, some of which have now bought holiday homes here in North Cyprus (we like to think that is because we are here!)

Post Code 4860 There are plenty of crocs jellyfish snakes spiders all venomous in fact it is like living in your own wildlife sanctuary!I like to come back to visit but not to live.

  55. Catherine Stromberg

  56. This is Guernsey

To answer a recent question, assuming I understood it correctly, Sark counts as part of the Bailiwick, so if you lived there and now live elsewhere you can have your current location recorded on the map.

And Catherine Stromberg - I’ve not been able to locate you on the map using that Post Code.
Could you name the Town or city, please?

  58. Kay Worthington

Hi there, we moved to Sudbury in Suffolk two years ago - and I am really homesick! Funny isn’t it, how a small island can “call you back”. Just waiting for a lottery win so we can make the move back “home”. Like the countryside here in Suffolk, but am prepared to put up with all the petty political messes just to get back!

If anyone else is in this neck of the woods, please make yourself known.

Hi, I left the island for good in 61 and have been in Australia since 69. Now living in Tasmania and it is paradise.
I refuse to travel anywhere now I like it here so much. I recognize a few of the names in this list from the old I was there forum. Hi to you all.

  73. Tim Julou

I spent twelve years in various parts of UK, before finally moving to New Zealand. My immediate family (all Guerns) are in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty.

I am in Taupo, central North Island. On my doorstep is the 750 sq km lake that the town takes it’s name from. All around are mountains and bush. My only problem, is it takes me over an hour to reach the ocean! I miss Herm especially.

  74. Bob - Can you please tell me where you are in Tasmania, so I can mark it on the map?
Just a region will be fine if you don’t want to be too precise.

…and I wonder if Tim Julou and Sue Lang realised they live on each others’ doorstep?
