TIM COTTERILL has won the Mick’s Fishing Supplies Mullet Open Festival, which was organised and run by the Guernsey Mullet Club as part of their 25th-anniversary celebrations.
His winning fish was a 6-4-7 specimen. After a slow start on the first leg in February, the club and its sponsors must have been delighted with the great improvement on the second.
More anglers entered to take the total up to 54 and more importantly catches went up from three on the first leg to 10 on the second. The top fish in February was a 3-14-7 one by Martyn Torode, which was only enough to give him sixth place overall. His fish was beaten twice on the first weigh-in on Saturday evening when Peter Frise returned with a 5-14-10 mullet and Paul Carre with one of 4-10-7.
