FORMER Vazon Bay Hotel owner Alan Jackson has had his court case against Chandlers Ltd and Tony Gover thrown out.
Mr Jackson, who also ran the Steakhouse and No. 44 Restaurant before closing them suddenly at Christmas because his company, Arete Holdings, had run out of money, had been given a deadline to pay £15,000 in security of costs for the two defendants or the case would be struck off. He did not pay the money. Mr Jackson had claimed that the accountancy firm and Mr Gover, who had sold him the businesses, misled him when the transaction took place. He was seeking more than £1.1m.
He had not turned up for several hearings in the Royal Court and had been accused, by Chandlers’ advocate Jeremy Wessels, of manipulating the legal process to prolong the case by feigning illness.
Mr Gover said he was glad the matter had come to an end.
‘I feel vindicated that the case has been chucked out,’ he said.
‘I’m glad it’s all over. It has cost a lot of people a lot of money for nothing.’
Chandlers declined to comment.
