A legendary appearance

IT IS the gathering of the local musical legends this weekend as blues king Peter Frampton gets together with guitar and percussion maestros Dave and Andy Fuller – for the first time.

‘Peter Frampton and the Fuller brothers are cousins and we have expressed a desire to perform on stage together for some time,’ said Dave.

‘It is strange that in all the years of working as professional musicians we have never shared a stage, let alone performed together. This is our first union.’

Dave invited Peter to perform with them at the Fermain Tavern as the venue is on the up and he is hoping to host music and other events on a regular basis.

‘Peter was keen to visit and decided to come for a long weekend so he could enjoy playing and spending time walking on the south coast cliffs – a love of his.’

Dave has also been the subject of a 35-year hunt by an avid fan.

‘I got an email from a man who runs a digital radio station called The Rock Doctor. He said he was running a competition to find out who wrote a song called Practical Man he’d heard on John Peel in 1972.

‘He’d been in the merchant navy and had travelled around the world and had tried to find out who’d performed the song.

‘It was my first band, Canton Trig. We were getting quite well-known and had been played on Bob Harris and had won the Folk on 2 competition.

‘Someone gave him my name and he hit my site. He’s now also playing tracks from the LP Surveillance, which was with my band I had in the 70s called The Walkie Talkies.’
