THE L’Ancresse Lodge will close in less than three weeks. It is set to be converted into flats, in line with planning permission granted five years ago.
The former hotel has recently operated as a lodging house, bar and music venue. It will shut on 10 April, leaving manager Bruno Crozier and his partner to find other jobs.
‘I knew it was going to happen one day, but it’s sad and I need to find somewhere to go,’ said Mr Crozier. He added that business had been starting to pick up.
Mr Crozier said that the owner had been very nice and said he would help him out if necessary.
‘I now have three weeks to sell everything in the hotel, including the chairs, the tables and the beds. It will be hard, but if I don’t sell it it could all be burnt. If I can sell all the furniture, it will make some money for me to start somewhere else.’
L’Ancresse had become the home for alternative live music, with regular all-age gigs.
There were bookings running into July, but most have now been cancelled.
Mark Guillou has been providing sound and lighting.
‘It’s disappointing it’s closing, but I always knew it would happen – I just didn’t expect it would be so soon,’ he said.
‘We had a great time down there and also proved what a great load of young musicians we’ve got. It worked so well with the young bands that more established ones had been queuing up to play as well.’
Mr Guillou has a PA and lights set up in the venue.
‘I put them in because it is a great venue. I played all sorts of places in Guernsey, but none that compared to L’Ancresse. Musically it is was great for the bands and the audience. If I could find somewhere similar, I’d do it all tomorrow.’
