RESCUERS have spoken of their frustration at being unable to reach two teenagers stuck on a west coast rock on Good Friday. More details have emerged about the difficulties faced as inshore rescue crews attempted to reach a boy and a girl, both 14, from Green Rock off Grandes Rocques.

The pair, who have not been named, spent at least three hours cut off by the tide with high winds and spray lashing the rock until they were airlifted to safety by a helicopter from France. Attempts to wade out to them or use the inshore rescue boats were called off because of the conditions.

‘The staff who attempted the rescue felt frustrated that they had been unable to reach the casualties, but were relieved to see both teenagers safely removed from the rock by helicopter,’ said an Ambulance and Rescue Service spokesman.
