Horton shows his class to pull away

THIRTY-THREE riders lined up in relatively calm conditions compared to those of the previous two days to race a 32-mile four-lap road race around the L’Eree circuit.

With a long steep hill directly off the finish line, it was going to be tough racing for the slower riders to keep with the main group and by the top of the hill it was clear that the top riders did not intend on waiting around with the race already split into two distinct groups.

James McLaughlin was clearly feeling strong and continuously launched attacks off the front of the first group. These attacks and the constant change of pace meant that the riders could never get into a rhythm and down L’Eree hill the second group had caught the lead riders and a group of nearly 25 eased back around to Pleinmont.
