GUERNSEY sailor Sophie Platts, one of four girls representing GB in the Laser Radial Youth World Championships, has arrived in Auckland.

She reached New Zealand three days prior to the scheduled first race and shortly after the women’s World championship event finished in the same venue.

That previous event set out an interesting background to the youth event. ‘The woman’s championship was to be used as the final selector event to choose Great Britain’s representative in the single-handed Olympic laser radial class boat to compete in Beijing,’ said Rob Platts, Sophie’s father.
