No poll in Castel as deadline looms

THE Castel still needs two candidates to force an election on 23 April. Nominations close at 4pm today.

Deputy Hunter Adam’s name was put forward yesterday, bringing the total to six candidates for seven seats.

An election was secured in St Peter Port North after four joined the seven candidates who had previously declared for the district’s seven seats.

New candidates there are Anthony Walkington, Lester Queripel and deputies John Gollop and Wendy Morgan.

Mr Queripel’s brother, Laurie, and former Transport and General Workers’ Union Guernsey official Peter Du Port put their names forward in the Vale.

No More Masts campaigner Ivan Roberts has declared in the South-East.

In St Sampson’s, deputies Scott Ogier and Sam Maindonald were put forward yesterday.

Susan Cotterill and Richard Whitford entered the fray in St Peter Port South, where only three of the 11 candidates currently have a seat in the House.

Arrun Wilkie’s name was added to the list in the West District.
