A SAFE walking route to the Les Nicolles schools has been given top-level support.

Pedestrian safety group Steps has been promoting the idea of using the green lanes and fields between the schools and Pitronnerie road industrial estate so that pupils do not have to walk along the surrounding roads. It met on Tuesday morning with Chief Minister Mike Torode, Deputy Chief Minister Stuart Falla and Home Department minister Geoff Mahy – at the same time as an emergency meeting of the Environment Department was taking place to look again at its plans.

Steps is now going to move forward with the most direct route, which goes via a track by the prison and onto the back of the school, after being given backing at the meeting.
