A MAGNIFICENT 89 break capped an enthralling day’s play that saw Martyn Desperques become the Guernsey Snooker Open champion.
The inaugural event for the Adie Locke Trophy held at the North Legion Club boasted an entry of 28 players across all divisions, but it was little surprise that the island champion walked away with the title.
Having beaten two Premier players without dropping a frame en route to the final, Desperques needed to be at his best to overcome Adrian Lihou, who had already made four breaks over 40. That included a 68 in the semi-final against John Skillett and breaks of 53 and 44 to dispose of Roscoe Cloarec.
