HARD work, a strong mental attitude and two weekly training sessions have helped ensure the Youth Three treble for North.
The club’s conveyor belt of hot young talent shows no signs of abating. After securing the league title and Le Vallee Cup, they clinched the clean sweep of trophies by lifting the M. J. Le Prevost Cup last week, going through the season unbeaten.
‘It’s a massive achievement,’ said coach John Le Sauvage. ‘We have got a good group of players and probably the best group of young players at the club,’ he said. He is hopeful that they can continue their success through the youth leagues and on to senior level.
‘They have the quality,’ said Le Sauvage.
Tom de la Mare has been a consistently high performer every week in a strong team, mainly consisting of Year 9s, that also has two good goalscorers and two exceptional centre backs.
‘We play good passing football and consistently work on passing and moving the ball,’ said the coach.
‘We did not lose a game all season – Bels gave us a good run in two games. It’s been a good season and well done to the players for putting in the effort in training and the games.’
North wrapped up the treble with a fairly routine 4-0 victory against derby rivals Vale Rec on Wednesday night.
They were undoubtedly the better side but Vale battled hard and should have taken the lead early on, but Ryan Truffitt, one on one with North keeper Dane Mullen, shot wide.
Vale have failed to score in all their meetings with North this season.
They were indebted to keeper Jack Tacon for a few fine blocks as North, inspired by captain de la Mare, made frequent chances. But they didn’t take the lead until first-half stoppage time, when North broke from defence, leaving Joe Alvarez to outstrip the Rec back line, round Tacon and find the net.
North confirmed their dominance with a spectacular second from Danny Cooley three minutes into the second period. He met a right-wing corner with an overhead kick that beat a surprised Tacon on the line.
Again Vale held out against waves of attacks, Theo Hannah and captain Luke Mollet outstanding in their ranks, before Will Garnett lobbed Tacon from 18 yards for the third with 10 minutes to go and River Marsh added a fourth immediately after.
