Dragged his ex by hair in a prolonged assault

A MAN from Alderney who dragged his ex-girlfriend by her hair and hit her head against a wall and light socket has escaped jail.

Barry Bridger, 40, of The Workshop, Valongis, was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to assault.

Jurat Partridge, chairman of the bench, said: ‘This was a serious and prolonged assault following excessive drinking and one that caused considerable pain to Miss De Mare. ‘This Court takes a strong view on domestic violence and therefore a custodial sentence is appropriate. You must remain of good behaviour. If you reoffend, you will serve two months in prison.’
