Two-wheelers to take a turn at Guernsey Live

THE spectacle at Guernsey Live will not be confined to the bands. BMX, mountain and trials bike riders will all be performing at the two-day event.

LibJam enjoyed a successful launch on Liberation Day at North Beach last year. But it has moved on and will take advantage of being able to ride later into the night, potentially in front of the thousands expected to attend the festival.

‘I’m really stoked we’re tied into Guernsey Live. It’s a natural progression from LibJam,’ said Jon Bisson. ‘I think it’s important that people recognise the faith that the Guernsey Live organisers have to invest so much money not only in a good line-up but in local people, local bands and a lot of local traders and industry to make it happen.’

A ‘big air’ competition will be open to all BMX and mountain bike riders on both days.

Anyone can take part in the qualification rounds between 8.30 and 11.30am for free before the site opens to the public. The top 20 each day will win one-day tickets to the festival and the chance to compete against visiting pro riders.

One of last year’s champions, Phil Aller, is coming back to defend his title and is bringing 10 other UK riders.

The semi-final and final rounds will take place at night under lights between the headline acts.

A motorcycle trials demonstration in the Turx arena has just been added and will feature local champion Tom Scott and top Jersey rider Adam Le Cheminant.

* Guernsey Live is on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May at Victoria Avenue. Bands playing include Editors, Biffy Clyro, The Enemy and The Futureheads. Tickets cost £65 for the weekend or £38.50 for a single day, not including the booking fee. Under-12s get in free. Tickets are available from Number 19 or at guernseylive.org.uk.
