FORMER care-home worker Shane Allen enjoyed Bafta success on Sunday night when his Channel 4 comedy came out on top.
Mr Allen (pictured), who is now commissioning editor for Channel 4, was delighted when Fonejacker picked up the award for best comedy show.
The programme was up against The Armstrong and Miller Show, Benidorm, Russell Brand’s Ponderland and Star Stories, another show he commissioned.
‘I’ve only ever been to The British Comedy Awards before, but this was a proper star-packed event at the London Palladium. Afterwards I got to shake Bruce Forsyth’s hand and he was hilarious – worked the whole room by being non-stop funny,’ said Belfast-born Mr Allen, who first visited Guernsey in 1989.
Mr Allen, 35, came to the island when he was 17. He worked for three years, on and off, at Oberlands and Chateau Reve care homes for people with learning disabilities.
He left Guernsey to pursue a career in creative arts and the media, but still returns at least once a year to see his goddaughter, six-year-old Carney.
‘I also like to have a pint at the Mermaid in Herm and some fish and chips at Cobo.’
*Fonejacker – Mr Allen explained the concept behind the Bafta-winning show Fonejacker: ‘The Fonejacker is a man addicted to making prank phone calls in the guise of various personas.’
