INNOVISION walked away with six awards at last night’s Young Enterprise finals, including best company.

The team, which made fashion bags from old curtains and clothing, also won awards for: best use of marketing, best managing director, best administered company, most innovative product and best written report.

It now goes head-to-head against the Jersey winners in the regional finals. ‘We all wanted to do something eco friendly,’ said Jo Stagg, 17. It’s been such a good experience. It’s been stressful but brilliant. I’m so happy and proud of everybody – it’s fantastic.’

The annual awards were presented at Beau Sejour to students from all the local sixth forms as well as a team from Oakvale.

‘We have enjoyed another excellent season,’ said David Packman, chairman of Young Enterprise Guernsey.

‘There have once again been some very good companies which have produced, marketed and sold some interesting products. Watching the achievers develop their business skills as well as their presentation skills and overall confidence is a truly rewarding experience.’

Stan Fitzgerald, facilities director for Sure, presented the Sure Young Achiever of the Year award to Laura Scanlan, 17, of Rave, which created T-shirts with logos and a Guernsey-based game.

‘I was told that I was awarded this as I kept us all together even when things were going down the toilet,’ she said.

‘This came completely out of the blue.’

Mr Fitzgerald said of the teams: ‘They have demonstrated a real entrepreneurial spirit and some excellent business skills. It fills me with confidence about the future of the island.’

Each team displayed its products at Beau Sejour, where Strike won the best stand award. Simon Torode of Livingroom was the judge.

‘Visually it was the clearest. It was all about the product. But there were all of good quality,’ he said.
