He received 27 votes in the last of six polls at today’s special sitting of the new States.
Deputy Trott led from the outset, with 17 votes in the first ballot, 18 in the third, 19 in the fourth and 23 in the fifth.
In the first and third polls, Deputy Al Brouard was his nearest rival, with 11 votes in each, while for the rest of the votes he was chased by Deputy Bernard Flouquet, who picked up 13 votes in the fourth ballot, 16 in the fifth and 19 in the final ‘head to head’ with Deputy Trott.
Deputy David De Lisle was eliminated after the second ballot (which was a straight contest between himself and Deputy Carla McNulty Bauer, after they tied in last place in the first poll), Deputy McNulty Bauer was eliminated in the third ballot, Deputy Hunter Adam in the fourth, and Deputy Al Brouard in the fifth.
The chief minister’s first task will be to recommend 10 deputies to serve on the Policy Council as the heads of the major States departments. Other nominations may be made by members.
The elections for these positions take place on Tuesday, 6 May.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse!
The best bit of news to come out of this years election process. Outstandingly the best man for the job. Congratulations Lyndon Trott!
Could have been a lot worse…Bernie the bolt!
Common sense has prevailed.
Trott, although relatively young, is an experienced and astute politician who has the Island’s interest at heart as opposed to his own self importance.
He will, with his Treasury experience and very wide circle of important business and other contacts both on-island and off-shore, be a significant Chief Minister.
Guernsey has a safe pair of hands in charge.
Mike Torode is a hard act to follow.
A real shame Trott was chosen; he has no idea.
Look at what he has achieved with the Black Hole, overspending in all States Departments on capital projects (airport, jetty, prison, schools, Beau Sejour etc) he obvioulsy has no idea how to plan ahead and manage finances, let along run an island who is one of Europes leaders in off-shore financial market activity..
I anticipate things will only get worse with him at the helm; still, at least he can inflate his ego even further with his increased demi-god status.
Having said that - I’m always happy to be proven wrong. . .
Darren - judging by your comments you get plenty of practice at being proven wrong.
To be honest, i don’t think this island’s Government have the ability in the House anyway. We need fresh blood and unfortunatly i don’t think that will arrive anytime soon. What we do have is plenty of aged men sitting on their jobs and covering their backs. It’s pathetic.
Eric - thank you, I like satire and derision all in the same sentence; very pleasant.
Having seen Trott in action first hand I can assure you he is hardly likely to prove me wrong, unless he actually listens to someone who knows what they are talking about, and as Harry rightly points out, the ability just isn’t there.
You could always get someone over on a 12 week housing licence to cover school holidays and such like….oh no, I’m becoming all embittered!
Ha ha ha when I saw this I couldn’t help laugh. I mean they are all rubbish but he is probably one of the worst. I am so glad I moved to the UK. When people ask why I moved from such a beautiful place, I say it is a beautiful place but its been ruined, its no longer the place I grew up in.
