GUERNSEY will seek revenge on their bitter rivals tomorrow night as the inter-insulars take place at KGV. And for the first time the men’s and women’s teams will square off against Jersey in a marquee.
Darts matches always have a good atmosphere but anyone easily offended by loud noise should possibly stay away. ‘I find the noise travels a lot better in a marquee, so it’s a lot louder,’ said men’s captain Robbie Davidson.
‘And with the home crowd in there, hopefully it will be in our favour. We always get really good support from the Guernsey crowd.’ Both the men and women’s squads are made up of the 10 players with the best aggregates over the course of the season.
The teams play nine matches, with one player as a reserve, of the best of five legs.
Jersey took the honours last year, with the men going down 5-4 and the women losing 6-3.
But Davidson, who is captaining the team for the first time but playing in his eighth inter-insular, is confident of getting revenge this time around.
‘Everyone in our squad is playing well at the moment so we have every chance of revenge,’ he said.
Paul Poullain is the only new cap in the Guernsey team while Chris Smith returns after taking a break for a couple of years.
‘I think we have a lot more confidence and willpower this year,’ Davidson said.
‘Jersey have four new caps whom we know nothing about, but those players also don’t know anything about us.
‘Hopefully, on the night everyone will play well, because you just don’t know what to expect. Everyone is playing well at the moment but when you put that green shirt on, it’s a different ballgame.’
At the start of the night, the captains for each team pick names out of a hat to determine the nine match-ups.
Women’s captain Yvonne Le Gallic said it would make a big difference if the draw could work in her team’s favour.
‘It would be nice if a couple of their best players drew players from our team who they have never come up against,’ she said.
Kate Flood is the only debutante in the Guernsey team.
Le Gallic added: ‘We have a very strong squad from one through to 10 so I wouldn’t say we are going in as underdogs.
‘It will be a really good atmosphere.’
The women’s match starts at 5pm with the men’s taking place from 8.
