A CHILDREN’S parade in the evening will be one of the highlights of Liberation Day.  The Liberation light wands they will carry are battery operated and reusable, in keeping with the central theme of ration, reuse and recycle.

‘The light-wand procession will be hugely symbolic,’ said Culture and Leisure marketing director Peter Falla.  ‘The sight of 1,500 children and their parents walking with their illuminated wands from the Albert to the Crown piers in the evening will truly embody the importance of all of us of looking to our history to protect our future,’ he said.

It starts at 9.30pm and children will move from the Red Light Arm to the rhythms of Big Beat – a group which plays percussion with recycled instruments. Near where the parade ends, there will be an illuminated display at the Careening Hard. It will be followed by a firework display at 10.30pm.
