THE bank holiday Guernsey Race Club meet will be shown on national TV. Racing UK will be covering it for broadcast on the Racing Channel.

The L’Ancresse event will have 25 horses competing in five races and will include a new feature race of two miles and one furlong, the longest flat race to be run in the Channel Islands.  Seven-year-old Glenree is the only Guernsey-based runner and will be competing in the feature race, which has a £5,000 prize courtesy of sponsor Cenkos CI.

The racing starts at 2.30pm on Monday but the gates open at 11.30am. The Sure Handicap will start the racing and is open to three-year-olds and up, with prize money of £3,100.

‘If previous years are anything to go by, we expect there is going to be another big crowd at L’Ancresse and it promises to be a great day out,’ said Sure director Peter Stahelin.

  • A full traffic-management system will be in place around L’Ancresse from 11am on Monday. Police will be in attendance to enforce the temporary traffic signs. Offending vehicles will be dealt with and if necessary removed at the expense of the registered keeper. Ample parking will be available at various signposted locations around L’Ancresse.
