A BUSINESS suffered a long-term setback when a fire destroyed its packing shed. The blaze at Castel Farm Eggs in La Vassalerie on Saturday ripped through the building where all the eggs are packed, causing more than £100,000-worth of damage.
Owner Martin Freeman said the one saving grace was that none of the hens had been in the shed at the time. ‘It’s absolutely heartbreaking,’ he said.
‘We are using other bits of the farm at the moment to do the work, but it’s difficult. We’re managing the best we can. Luckily the hens were all in their house and the fire brigade managed to keep the blaze away from them.’
Mr Freeman praised the work of firefighters. ‘They were amazing,’ he said.
