TOM BROCK topped the catches in the Guernsey Bass Anglers’ Sportfishing Society during April. He landed fish of 6-7-0, 5-9-0 and 10-0-0 for a total weight of 21-11-0.

His double-figure bass was a personal best and gave him the Mick’s Fishing Supplies award for the Fish of the Month and the John Chauvel Cup which is presented for the first 10-0-0 shore-caught bass of the year.

In all, six members entered 10 bass during the month. Other members to submit their catches were Dean Tulie 4-8-0, 4-8-0, Karl Le Prevost 5-8-0, 3-4-0, Sam Robins 4-3-0, Brian Montgomery 3-14-8 and Andy Marquis 3-0-0, all the fish being shore-caught specimens.

Montgomery’s solitary one enabled him to hold on to the top spot in the championship race. Second placed Paul Clark had a blank month, which allowed Montgomery to increase his lead.

The club are looking forward to their Open Bass Festival which is due to be held from Thursday 28 August to Monday 1 September.

The club have recognised the rapidly growing interest in kayak fishing and introduced a bonus prize of approximately £250 in the newly introduced Dinghy and Kayak class in the festival.

ANDY LE LERRE is the early leader in the West Coast Sea Angling Club’s Summer League.

During April, the first month in the boat competition, eight members weighed in a total of 12 fish, covering three species, whiting, pollack and lesser spotted dogfish.

Le Lerre landed three, a 1-11-13 whiting, a 6-9-13 pollack and a 1-14-9 lesser spotted dogfish for a score of 119.09%.

George Jennings is in second spot having boated a 2-4-12 lesser-spotted dogfish and a 1-9-0 mackerel, worth a total of 110.03%.

Third placed Tim Froome was the only other member to catch more than one qualifier, his 1-5-0 whiting and 1-14-6 lesser-spotted dogfish being worth 84.93%.

Anglers catching one fish were Scott McMillan 2-7-10 lesser-spotted dogfish 78.18%, Robert Jennings 12-15-5 pollack 50.32%, Steve Le Cloarec 1-7-4 lesser-spotted dogfish 45.87%, Martin Mourant 11-6-2 pollack 44.21% and Adrian Coquelin 1-10-5 whiting 31.32%.
