THE eagerly anticipated final game of the robin-robin stage of the Condor Super League did not disappoint.

With Roos and Zebras wanting to go into the play-offs with a morale-boosting win, it was a hotly contested game despite enforced tactical changes for both sides with the Trump sisters, Lois (now Batiste) and Anna, missing for the respective sides.

Shelley de Lisle and Cath Coutanche teamed up in the Zebras shooting circle and they were up against the pairing of Kate Seabrook and Sharna Bunyan.

For Roos the island under-19 shooting duo of Zola Bourgaize and Kiara de Carteret were made to work hard for every goal by the defence of Anais de Carteret and Claire Green.

The game went end to end with neither team giving an inch. Every error was punished and both shooting duos scored with ease.

With Roos leading 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, Zebras brought Kelly Savident into centre court and that gave them a little more experience.

By half-time they were level at 21-all.

Roos made a change themselves and went into the third period looking to regain the lead.

Bourgaize, Kat Daunt and Kristy Webber worked hard to contest every ball and their determination paid dividends as they managed to edge ahead again and they went into the last quarter 31-29 to the good.

Lisa Martin and Katie Cochrane worked extremely hard to retrieve the situation for Zebras, covering an impressive amount of court, but their opponents were not to be denied.

Roos took the pressure well and although both sets of shooters missed a few goals, on the whole they had the edge as they took control of the centre court and fed the ball down to the shooters who duly put the shots away.

They ran out 42-36 victors.

That has set up a semi-final versus Experience which will pit mother Denise Bourgaize against daughter Zola.

That match will take place on Thursday 22 May at 7pm indoors at Beau Sejour.

One week earlier, Zebras will face Panthers in the other semi.

It will also involve a mother-v.-daughter clash as Panthers’ Amy Wright will come up against the team coached by mother Julie.

The grand final will be on Sunday 1 June at 7pm.

Meanwhile, the losers of the first semi will play Thundercats and the losers of the second will play Sharks to set up the minor final.

It is also hoped that on 1 June the Youth Super League will get its first run out in a competitive fixture.
