HELP for first-time buyers could be on the way. dThe new Housing Department met for the first time yesterday and minister Dave Jones said he was keen to produce proposals before the end of the year.

Other priorities for Deputy Jones over the next four years include care for the elderly and introducing legislation to crack down on the poor conditions some guest workers find themselves living in.

On a policy to help first-time buyers, Deputy Jones said he had a nucleus of an idea he had discussed with others but would not go into detail until the board had considered it.

‘We addressed and are addressing the social housing programme, but it’s clear more needs to be done to help first-time buyers,’ he said.
