THE two troubled stars of the 2006-07 season won this year’s Guernsey Football Association’s big awards.
At Tuesday’s presentation evening at the Farmhouse, Liverpool legend Jan Molby presented Joby Bourgaize with the Priaulx player of the year while Craig Young received the prestigious players’ player of the year. In the season before last, Bourgaize fell out with island manager Steve Ogier while the 21-year-old Young had walked away from football.
But this season the pair turned around their problems and, for Young especially, their awards were out of the blue. ‘It’s absolutely brilliant and a bit of a shock, to be honest,’ said Young. ‘I thought I’d had a decent season, but to win something like this is unthinkable. It’s the icing on the cake.’
