MARCUS HAYSOM has just had the perfect season. The 44-year-old postman won all 72 of his Guernsey Triples Darts League Division Two matches to obliterate the old record of 27 victories set by John Cusack.
To say Haysom (pictured) was modest about his achievement is an understatement. ‘I felt pretty good most of the season,’ he said.
Playing out of the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Victoria Road, his fine darts helped his side take the Division Two title. He was also ably supported by teammate Peter Dodd, who came second behind Haysom in the averages.
In their final match of the season, Ex-Service overcame Norfolk and Chance 5-4. Haysom wracked up a 15-dart leg and a 101 checkout.
After taking up the sport at the age of 15, Haysom has three inter-insular appearances under his belt.
He has not been so successful against Jersey, having not won one match, but now he wants more.
‘I haven’t won yet, but I’m working on that,’ he said.
I’m going to try and get back [into the Guernsey team]. We will be in Division One next season and hopefully I’ll have a good one.’
