FORTIS will once again be getting behind the Guernsey Island Games team when it competes in Aland next summer.
The financial services company has renewed its sponsorship of the Guernsey Island Games Association in a significant deal that will see Fortis provide financial support until 2013. The funding will help with travel and kit costs as well as providing administrative support.
Fortis have been involved in the Games since they were staged in Guernsey in 2003, becoming sole sponsor of the local Island Games Association in 2005.
Giga is run by a management board on which two members of Fortis staff sit. Former athlete Caroline Wickham is secretary and liaison and swimmer Chris Adkins is responsible for host island entries as administration director. Chairman of Giga, Denise Fawcett, heads the expanded committee.
‘Having the continued support of a sponsor such as Fortis allows us to focus on the wishes and needs of the member sports looking to compete in Aland 2009.’
‘We are proud to be involved with the Island Games,’ said Rick Denton, group head of marketing and business development at Fortis Guernsey, which has a number of staff likely to be in the team for Aland.
‘A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes in organising, managing and physically getting the Guernsey team to and from the Games, so we are pleased to be able to offer our support on this front, as well as with the financial side of things.’
