THE summer karting season is underway after a stuttering start. With the first meeting of the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club’s summer championships abandoned after a number of minor incidents meant that it overran, the attention was on round two of the Chateaux Estates sponsored series at the Track.
In the senior libre class it was Matt Corson who was celebrating at the end after he had taken the final race. ‘It was good and I’m definitely pleased. It all went well,’ said Corson afterwards.
All eyes had been on the Hockadays, Dave and Ayrton, who were sporting brand-new KFI engines.
Dave had taken the first heat of the day, but come the last he found himself second on the grid behind Corson.
The latter held his advantage all race to be followed by Dave and Ayrton, while Colin Laine, who had been in good form all day, had to retire on the 12th lap when his chain snapped.
It was a family affair, too, in the 125cc gearbox as brothers William and Darren Konken, racing against each other for the first time in the class, had to settle for second and third respectively with Daniel James top.
James took a clean sweep of all three heats and the final which saw him a tenth-of-a-second outside of the class lap record.
In junior rotax max, Charles Falla took the final honours, followed by Kasey Watson in second.
There was some controversy for the third spot as Sheldon Davey, who had been pushing Tia Harvey all the way during the race, bumped Harvey on the last corner of the final lap to take the last podium spot.
However the stewards were not having any of this and Harvey was awarded third place.
Kameron Davey overtook Jordan Caradeuc on the first lap of the final of the junior minimax to claim the honours ahead of his rival, while the large cadet class belonged to Angus Torode who had dominated all day.
Harry Torpy and Cameron Robert came second and third.
