BLUE Islands is stopping its Paris route. The direct flight from Guernsey to Paris-Beauvais Airport, the capital’s third largest, only started at the end of March.
Since then, Flybe has announced it will fly direct to the city’s main airport, Charles de Gaulle, from Friday 11 July. Blue Islands will stop its service two days before that.
Chairman Derek Coates, pictured, said: ‘We continue to explore other routes that meet our strategic goal of being the Channel Islands’ favourite airline, linking the financial centres of Europe.’
The airline had been using a 19-seater Jetstream aircraft on the route. But according to a statement it released, Beauvais has a preference for aircraft with more than 100 seats.
The landing and take-off slots are restricted by environmental regulations governing the number of flights per day, it added.
The airport authorities, however, were supportive of the Blue Islands Jetstream operation, it said.
Fares were set at £159 return when the service was launched, but once at the airport, it took an hour to get into central Paris.
Someone booking on Flybe’s website yesterday morning could get a return flight to Charles de Gaulle leaving on Wednesday 16 July and returning on Monday 21 July including one hold bag for £83.29, not including card charges or travel insurance.
A train to central Paris takes about 45 minutes.

Shocked and saddened by this decision. A big blow to Guernsey Airport and indeed Guernsey itself.
