A POLICEWOMAN who accessed intelligence files on her boyfriend who was suspected of a crime could be jailed.

Jessica Simon, 21, of Flat 3, 10, Mount Row, St Peter Port, admitted making four attempts to use one of the force’s computers to gain unauthorised access to information about him.  This occurred on 7, 15, 16 and 30 August.

No evidence was offered in the Magistrate’s Court on a further five allegations of similar offences, which were dismissed.

The court heard that on 13 August, Simon’s shift was briefed about a burglary in the Markets.

Her boyfriend was one of the suspects and the accused admitted speaking to him after viewing CCTV footage and accessing his nominal record.

She said that she had done so to see if he was an active criminal.

He had been asking her about the case and she wanted to know if he was a suspect, Advocate Liam Roffey, prosecuting, told the court.

Simon then accessed the burglary file on 30 August and an audit found that she had accessed his intelligence cell on 7 and 16 August.

The officer was subsequently suspended from work and she resigned in October.

In interview with police, she accepted that she had checked his record and the burglary file.

Simon said that she had not printed any of the information accessed and did not pass it on to her boyfriend or a third party.

Sentencing was adjourned until 19 June for a probation report.

Simon, who has no previous convictions, was granted unconditional bail.
