Seminar helps to strengthen Scottish ties

0286214.jpgA RECENT seminar in Edinburgh has helped to cement the relationship between Guernsey and the UK’s second largest finance centre.  GuernseyFinance and the Guernsey Investment Funds Association hosted a masterclass seminar  in Edinburgh last September about demystifying funds in Guernsey.

Now representatives of the legal and accounting professions have held further meetings there.  Seminars have also taken place in Manchester and Leeds.

‘Edinburgh is the second largest financial centre in the UK, after London, and the fifth largest in Europe,’ said Peter Franks (pictured), a partner at Ernst & Young. ‘Last year’s GIFA initiative strengthened the relationships firms and institutions in Guernsey have with Scottish professionals. It has paved the way for further business.’

The marketing trip was jointly coordinated by Ernst & Young, represented by partners Mr Franks and Graham Parrott, and Carey Olsen, represented by partner Advocate Ben Morgan.

Mr Morgan said Edinburgh’s finance industry is thriving.

‘It’s the fastest-growing sector in the Scottish economy and hosts some of the biggest global names in the industry.

‘There is a lot of synergy with Guernsey’s expertise and we are exploring further opportunities to work closely with our professional counterparts north of the border,’ he said.

GuernseyFinance chief executive Peter Niven said the presence in Edinburgh of individual firms in the industry was a positive move.

‘It is important that we keep reiterating our expertise in major finance centres such as this.

He said the seminar has paved the way for GIFA’s private equity masterclass, which will be staged in Edinburgh in June.
