IN A week where Great Britain rider Mark Cavendish had been dominating the sprint stages of the Giro d’Italia, Stuart Le Tissier showed similar dominance in the Guernsey Velo Club’s criterium at Delancey Park strengthening his position as the island’s top crit rider.
Le Tissier outsprinted Matt Osborn to take the win. The two riders had been out on a break for most of the race and proved too strong for the chasing group of 13 riders whom they held off to take a one-two.
Veteran Nick Mann claimed third place with another well timed break on the final lap with Josh Gosselin taking the bunch sprint for fourth from Tony Bleasdale, Dan Arblaster, Callum Hill-Smith, James McLaughlin, Jamie Burtenshaw, Gary Robert, Leon Ogier, Paul Brehaut, Ben Walden, Philip Touzeau and Rob Smart.
One lap back, Tim Holmes took 16th with Richard Setters at two laps back followed by Gary Wallbridge, Phil Setters, Andy Wilson, Tim Luscombe, Stefano Rizzuto and Aiden Stanford.
Earlier, the under-16s had competed over 10 laps of the course and following a frantic start when Alex Falla tried an instant break- away the riders were soon strung out.
Alex Wilson worked well and over the course of three laps regained contact with Falla.
Michael Mann followed the two leaders, with Juliette Setters and Will Falla slightly further back.
Alex Falla continued to stay on the front until the last lap when Wilson overtook him to make his move, as the riders rounded the final corner they were neck and neck.
In the final few metres Falla managed to get ahead to take the sprint.
Mann rode well to take third followed by Setters and Will Falla.
The next criterium will be on Thursday 12 June at Delancey Park.
