Health stands by ad system

05872811.jpgHEALTH will not be reviewing its authorisation procedures for advertisements despite more than £800 having been spent on one that had to be scrapped.

The recruitment ad that appeared in the Jersey Evening Post on Thursday 29 May attempted to ‘poach’ nurses from there by damning its goods and service tax.

It was placed in the newspaper without the knowledge or approval of either the board or, it is claimed, department senior management.

Health and Social Services minister Hunter Adam has apologised to his Jersey opposite number, Senator Ben Shenton.

A spokesman for Health and Social Services said that it was not necessary to review the existing method of authorisation for adverts.

‘The department has a robust system. It is regrettable that, on this occasion, this advertisement slipped through the system in error,’ he said.

‘However, it is not felt that the above-mentioned authorisation procedures require review in the light of this incident, although it may be that staff awareness needs to be addressed.’

The advert said: ‘Move to Guernsey and you won’t have to pay GST on goods – in fact we’ll tax you in all the right ways.’

He would not say whether anyone would be reprimanded.

‘Whether any disciplinary action will be taken as a result of this advertisement appearing in the Jersey Evening Post will be an internal matter for the department itself.’
