IT WAS the Tim Ravenscroft show at Port Soif last night. The Hampshire academy and Guernsey star stroked a magnificent century to lay the foundations for Corinthians’ 56-run victory over St Pierre.
His captain, Dave Piesing, called it ‘a very good innings’ as the young opener struck 15 fours and a six in his 64-ball stay at the crease.
It took Ravenscroft just 51 deliveries to bring up his hundred and he eventually fell to his island manager Dave Hearse for 121. By all accounts, the batsman was understandably getting tired by that stage in the 19th over and was throwing the bat.
His contribution to Corinthians’ total is emphasised in the fact that he scored 103 runs more than the next best individual – his opening partner Will Thompson who shared in a stand worth 60.
Ravenscroft’s efforts with the ball were not bad either, taking two for four in the two overs he was given as Saints slumped to 18 for four in their reply.
Justin Walker (22) and top scorer Phil Cox, who launched three sixes to go with his four fours in a knock of 46, pushed the score to a respectable level, but Corinthians were never in danger of losing.
At the KGV, champions Cobo overcame arguably their biggest obstacle of the season with a four-wicket win over Rovers, who had beaten them in the EL Challenge already this summer.
Victory was more comfortable than the margin suggests.
A fine bowling and fielding display had restricted Rovers to 110 for four in their 20 overs.
It was hardly surprising that GH Smit scored the bulk of his side’s runs, making 59 at a run-a-ball although Cobo kept the shackles on him well after a blistering start saw Rovers at 25 off the first two overs.
Jamie Nussbaumer recovered excellently from conceding 11 in his first over to return miserly figures of one for eight in the next four while Gary Rich bowled well in taking two for 24.
Stuart Bisson struck a couple of early blows at the start of the Cobo reply, removing both TJ Ozanne and Kris Moherndl, but Matt Oliver’s quickfire 29 set Cobo on their way to victory.
Nussbaumer and Jeremy Frith took them to within sight of the finishing line at 105 for three before both they and captain Stuart Le Prevost fell in a scrappy end to the match, which was won with a wide.
