This is Guernsey has always welcomed comments from users, and now we’ve made it even easier.
Since the site was relaunched earlier this year, visitors to the site have been able to comment on the vast majority of stories.
We’ve now enhanced this service with the introduction of the ‘Your Shout’ page.
On this page you will be able to see all the most recent comments on stories.
You can then either read the story by clicking the headline link, or go directly to the comment itself, before adding your own if you wish.
Another new feature is the introduction of ‘Gravatars‘ (globally recognised avatars) for all comments posters.
From now on, everyone who posts a comment will have a small icon appear next to their name, and all future comments from that person will bear the same icon.
As well as making it easy to spot comments from the same person, it also means that if several people post under the name ‘Fred’, each individual ‘Fred’ will have his own avatar, thus differentiating him from the rest.
The avatars used are generated the first time a user posts, but users can add their own avatar image by visiting the Gravatar website and creating an account.
Note that although Gravatars are based on e-mail addresses, there is no way that someone can reverse-engineer an avatar to find out a poster’s e-mail address.
‘Your Shout’ resides in our newly created comment section, which is the new home of the daily GP Opinion piece, as well as opinion articles from other Guernsey Press writers and contributors.

In the future we will be implementing Gravatars for all comments posted on the site.
The geometric shapes used are unique to each user, but we’re hoping that people will go to the Gravatar site and add their own.
Wonder what my icon looks like?
Annoying that the icon hangs over the first line and name of the contributor!
Could you move it to the left please?
What OS and browser are you using, Dan?
I’ve viewed this site on a Mac running Safari and Firefox and on a PC running IE7 and cannot see the problem you describe.
Windows XP & IE6
Dan - The problem with IE6 wasn’t spotted when the new icons were added, but it’s being fixed right now. If you know how to clear your browser cache, try doing so and reloading the page in half an hour.
If you don’t, everything should appear normally tomorrow.
Thanks for pointing out the glitch.
When a government turns the closure of two much needed and thought of infant schools into a perverse competition and then the local paper and media revel in this competition regardless of the damage the closure will have on those attending and the community, you know we have some in power and in the community out of control.
Well done Pete needed saying
