CORINTHIANS comfortably got one over their Wanderers stable mates St Saviour’s last night in Barclays Wealth Evening League Division One at the KGV.
Batting first, St Saviour’s were bowled out for a miserly 91 in the 17th over, which Corinthians knocked off for the loss of two wickets.
Corinthians’ captain Dave Piesing was full of credit for his side, which contained juniors Tim Ravenscroft and Tom Kirk. ‘It’s good to have an injection of youth,’ he said.
‘We’ve been an old side for a number of years.’ Piesing’s best bowler was seamer Eddie Sherbourne, who returned figures of four for 28 from his five overs.
The only St Saviour’s batsman who made any score of note was big hitting Australian Ben Taylor, who struck 29.
But, disappointingly for the sky blues, their other main run-getters, Ben Driver and Ross Kneller, failed to produce the goods.
James Warr saw Corinthians home with 50 not out that contained some lusty straight blows towards the end.
The opener has just returned to the island from university.
‘We’re delighted to have him back at this stage of the season,’ said Piesing.
The two teams now join together under the banner of Wanderers to face Cobo on Saturday in the Carey Olsen GCA Championship.
Wanderers have been the surprise package so far this season, having four matches out of four at the weekend.
Title favourites Cobo will be a big test for them.
‘We didn’t expect to play four and win four,’ said Piesing.
‘We’ve worked hard, we’ve planned better and we’re winning games at the moment. If we bat well we’ve got every chance.’
St Pierre also had an easy time last night as they defeated Grant Thornton by 51 runs at Port Soif.
Destructive opener Jarrod Avery hit 76 with Justin Meades getting 50 as St Pierre posted an imposing total of 183.
Grant Thornton never looked like getting close as they were bowled out for 132.
