Fog doesn’t halt London to Paris cycle

0604046.jpgFOG nearly put paid to a 485km charity cycle ride in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support.  Julie Jones, 39, was due to fly to Gatwick to take part in a London to Paris cycle yesterday morning when mist came down.

However, the mum-of-three (pictured) decided instead to cover the distance by cycling around the island. ‘I managed to raise over £2,000 so I’m going to do the whole distance in three days by cycling around Guernsey 14 times,’ said Mrs Jones.

She is cycling for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her father, Malcolm, who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and died two years ago. She has been training heavily for the ride by cycling around the island and taking spinning exercise classes.

This is the first time that she would have taken part in an event of this scale. ‘The other option was to do it next July but I’ve been in training since January.  But I might well do it next year.

‘There was the option of the Chinese bike ride but it’s too far and there was another in August but I can’t make it.

‘Macmillan said I could go on part of the ride but the big deal was to do the whole thing, not just part of it.’

She will be using the next few days to complete the new challenge, by verifying the mileage on her bike speedometer.
