Simon Newton with his potential British shore record 3-4-6 Couch’s sea bream. (0609083)
IT WAS inevitable that the Couch’s sea bream Bailiwick and British shore-caught records would be beaten. Increasing numbers over 3-0-0 are being reported from boat anglers.
It was only a matter of time before specimens heavier than the current record of 2-15-1 caught by Lynton Carre in August 2006 would come inshore into the range of the shore angler.
Well it has happened.
Simon Newton was legering a lugworm/squid cocktail bait on a benchmark in Belle Greve Bay when he hooked and landed a 3-4-6 specimen. Formalities to submit claims for both the national and Bailiwick shore records are already in hand.
It is highly probably that Newton’s potential record fish will be beaten in the near future, for the size of the Couch’s sea bream is steadily increasing.
