GUERNSEY now know what they need to work on. There was certainly nothing wrong with their bowling and fielding as they restricted Kenya to 194 on a lively county ground track in Hove yesterday.

But the gulf in class between Guernsey, which has just been awarded ICC associate status, and the Kenyans, ranked 12th in the world and considered one of the best countries outside the test playing nations, became apparent when the Sarnians came to bat.

They were bowled out for 122. ‘That was probably the best bowling and fielding performance in my six years as manager,’ said Guernsey boss Dave Hearse.

‘To keep Kenya to 194 was a terrific performance. I’m pleased with all the bowlers. They all bowled well. There was a couple of good catches in there as well. With the batting we needed one of our big guns to do it but it wasn’t to be. We don’t come up against such disciplined bowling on a regular basis.’
