PUBLIC sector employees now appear unlikely to strike again this weekend. The two sides have resumed talks, said Ron Le Cras, regional industrial organiser for Unite.
‘As far as I’m concerned, while we are talking and trying to reach a settlement, it would not be advantageous to have industrial action,’ he said.
Mr Le Cras met the Public Sector Remuneration Committee yesterday. However, the committee again claimed that as no settlement could be agreed, the matter would be referred to the industrial disputes officer.
The committee did that on 11 July after six months of talks. That angered the union and workers, who felt further discussions could have resulted in a breakthrough.
‘I think the workers were upset that the talking had stopped,’ said Mr Le Cras. ‘That’s what led to the industrial action – but we have got the talking started again.’
