THE Guernsey Football Association will survive the de-affiliation of the social leagues. That is the view of the organisation’s commercial director, James Blower (pictured), who also believes that in a year’s time, teams may start changing their loyalties.
‘I have had some interest from teams who are considering moving into our structure,’ he said. ‘They can’t move for this season, because they have missed the fixture cut-off date, but they may do so for next season.’
If some teams were to switch organisations, then it would mean that the new structure that the GFA has put in place as part of their five-year plan allowing for promotion and relegation could still be brought into being.
One competition that does look under threat for the coming season is the Guernsey FA Cup now that the Business and Sunday leagues teams are unable to compete.
That is an issue that Blower says will be discussed at the planned GFA board meeting tomorrow.
If the competition does take place, there will be a new sponsor after Fletcher Sports ended their four-season association with the trophy.

I’m sure that the GFA can get more teams/clubs into the new structure - but it has to work harder to meet teams on their terms. It’s no good just offering a few platitudes.
The GFA needs to discover why people play for those clubs and offer them a similar kind of football - if you only play Sunday mornings for family/work reasons, you want to keep doing that, and the GFA must be prepared to take clubs and players with them step-by-step.
