This message at Cobo is clear enough but a mother said there were no signs att he most popular access point to the beach at Bordeaux.
POLLUTION-WARNING signs at high-risk beaches are inadequate, according to one mother.
Gill Le Page took her children to Bordeaux yesterday and did not see the caution sign, which was placed by the slipway.
‘I didn’t see the sign because I went straight by the kiosk. My children are down on the beach now and I wasn’t aware that there could be pollution,’ she said.
‘There was a slight unpleasant smell but I didn’t think anything of it. Now I wonder if it might be related.’
She has only recently been visiting the bay because it less busy than others.
‘The signs are inadequate because when most people come here they go directly to the area near the kiosk. No one goes by the slipway.
‘They shouldn’t be pumping sewage anywhere. There are other ways to deal with it.
‘I’m going to tell my children to come back up and I won’t come back here if the problem isn’t sorted out,’ she said.
Other beachgoers were also unhappy.
‘No one has thought about effects on health. We come here quite often and if there are risks of pollution the children can’t go on the beach, which means their summer is ruined,’ said Karyn Le Cras.
Her friend, Nikki Young, said: ‘It’s quite nice down here for the children to play and explore in the rocks but it wouldn’t be nice if they found something floating next to them.’
