DEFENDING champions Falcons remain on course to retain their Sandeman Men’s Fours title.
The Vale Rec bowls team of skip Matt Le Ber, Gary Pitschou, Garry Collins and Len Le Ber lived up to their hot-favourites billing in their quarter-final with The Hitmen.
To his credit, the latter’s skip, Daniel de la Mare, has brought some new faces into the team fours, namely Matt Solway, Don Ogier and Ivan Donaldson.
It was asking too much to beat such an experienced side at the Guernsey Bowling Club’s Beau Sejour green, but the novices played well despite being beaten 26-5.
In the semi-finals, Falcons will play fellow Vale Rec team the Barracudas.
The team of skip Nigel Collins, Mick Hillock, Alan Gibson and Peter Tranter beat the Bad Boys, who had Dave Lucas standing in as skip for Wes Baker, who was out of the island. Lucas joined Andy Lucas, Peter Whales and Brent Blondel, all novices at this level.
The Barracudas adjusted better to the fast green conditions and were always in front, winning the match 26-11.
Home side Moonrakers of skip Steve Machon, Paul Sargeant, Phil Schofield and Geoff Savident were more than happy with their performance against the Northern side, Police.
Skip and current island singles champion Don Batiste, Ricky Nash, Steve Cowdrey and Trevor Savident found the faster pace of the green did not suit them.
Moonrakers went ahead in the second end and dominated play to win 28-10.
Their semi-final opponents will be the Northern team, Brats, of skip Paul Merrien, Roy Queripel, Mac Timms and Sid Le Maitre.
They beat Vale Rec’s Sarnians team of skip Stan Simon, Norman Gavet, Ken de Moulpied and Mick Yabsley.
It was the closest contested match of the evening on the green with nothing in it at 13-13 at 15 ends played.
However, the former team finished better and won the last five ends to return a 22-13 scorecard.
