FIVE adults and a baby girl were in hospital yesterday after two cars and a skip lorry collided at the Ville au Roi roundabout.
Skid marks led back from the Skips ‘R’ Us lorry under which a pink Daihatsu Charade was partially trapped yesterday afternoon. A silver Chevrolet Kalos had crashed into the back of the Daihatsu.
All had been travelling down Les Frieteaux towards the roundabout.
As the emergency services started treating the casualties, people looked on from their gardens and a grass bank that overlooked the scene.
One man described it as ‘horrendous’.
The Ambulance and Rescue Service was called at 3.49pm.
Initial reports said that people were still in the vehicles. Five ambulances, an incident officer and a safety officer were sent.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, casualties from the Chevrolet had already been taken by ambulance to the nearby hospital.
They included a nine-month-old girl suffering abdominal injuries.
The driver, a 48-year-old woman, had chest pains, possibly caused by her seat belt. An 84-year-old female passenger had chest and back pains while another female passenger, 37, had an injury to her left shoulder.
None is believed to be in a serious condition.
Airbags had deployed in both vehicles.
Fire crews worked to cut a 57-year-old woman from the Charade.
‘We were told it wasn’t time-critical, so we were able to take our time to get the casualty out and make sure we didn’t cause any further injury,’ said Fire and Rescue Service incident officer Pierre Laine.
They removed part of the roof of the Daihatsu and part of the driver’s side.
The woman was conscious throughout and at times was covered in plastic to protect her.
A 69-year-old man who was also in the car suffered a cut to his head.

He watched as Ambulance and Rescue service personnel transferred the driver on a spinal board and with a neck brace onto a stretcher before going up to speak to her.
She was then taken to a waiting ambulance, a small part of her green dress stained with blood.
It was around 4.50 when it left for the hospital with the woman suffering a head injury and neck pain.
Again the injuries are not believed to be serious.
People working in the nearby filling station said they had heard nothing.
For one passing motorist the incident was an extra shock – she stopped thinking one of her friends who had a similar pink Charade had been involved but was found out she was not.
Police cordoned off the area and put out warnings on the radio for people to avoid the scene.
A man directed traffic that did drive up from La Rue de la Corbinerie, Ruettes Brayes or Ville au Roi.
The scene was clear by 5pm.
Police are now investigating and have appealed for witnesses.
