Priaulx slots into racing hall of fame

0623886.jpgANDY PRIAULX has been immortalised in the world of racing with his own Scalextric car.

Marketing manager Paul Chandler believed Mr Priaulx was an obvious choice.

‘Scalextric has reproduced the BMW 320si WTCC car in 1:32 scale slot-racing form in recognition of the incredible achievement of triple world champion Andy Priaulx.

‘We extend our congratulations to Andy and wish him every success in the current WTCC season,’ he said.

Malcolm Tostevin of Model World at Oatlands (pictured with the car) is selling the product and believed the new model proved Priaulx had finally ‘arrived’ on the biggest stage.

‘It is a very big thing for someone to have a Scalextric model made of them and I expect it to sell large numbers worldwide,’ he said.

Mr Tostevin said it could be improved with extra parts.

‘You can attach both front and back lights to it, making it even more realistic.’

Priaulx is the only reigning British motor sport champion and many feel his achievements have always been undervalued because he does not race in Formula 1.

However, he joins an exalted group of drivers who have been given Scalextric fame.

The list includes world champions Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, as well as Britain’s new hope, Lewis Hamilton.
