THIS year’s Guernsey International Film Festival has had a record number of entries.
They have come from countries including Belgium, Austria and Germany as well as from the UK and the Channel Islands.
‘The standard has, once more, been absolutely phenomenal,’ said organiser and judge Peter Rouillard.
‘We have had a record number of entries again this year and it has been a tough job to pick the winners from the 148 entries.’
Six films were chosen as major winners and prizes were awarded in 14 categories.
Two of the winners are from Guernsey.
Ian Thoume won most promising newcomer for his productions of Pleasant Valley Sunday and Rackman while Joanne Mahy won best Channel Island entry for her film, The Night Shift.
The event is sponsored by the Image Group.
‘I am incredibly impressed with the quality of films produced,’ said managing director Steve Gillman.
‘Choosing the winners
was a very difficult job, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.’
The films will be shown at the Guernsey Lily Film Festival at La Villette Hotel in October.
Plans are already in hand for next year’s festival, for which high-definition films will be admitted.
