Deputy calls for increase in fuel allowance

0564352.jpgPRESSURE is being applied for the supplementary fuel allowance to be raised further, in the wake of the coal-price hike.

Deputy Barry Brehaut (pictured) has emailed Social Security minister Mark Dorey with his concerns and circulated it to other States members.

The issue was due to be raised during yesterday afternoon’s Policy Council meeting.  The department had already discussed it and is set to respond within the next few days.

‘As you are aware, I expressed concerns regarding the revised fuel-allowance proposals which were presented to the States at our last sitting,’ said Deputy Brehaut, in his email. ‘Although the uplift takes into account the recent increases in gas and oil, the increase in coal (presumably because of the timing of the announcement) could not be. ‘
