A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to hospital after smashing into the side of a car at L’Ancresse yesterday.

The 24-year-old local male driver of a black Triumph motorbike collided with the side door of a car as it turned right across Les Mielles Road to enter La Rue du Passeur.

The force of the blow cracked the frame of the motorbike in several places and scattered its parts across the road.

Its rider sustained facial injuries, a fractured wrist and suspected neck and back injuries, but remained conscious.

Emergency services received a series of calls from 11.51 and the police were on the scene within 10 minutes, closely followed by the ambulance and fire services.

Police officer Andy Simon described what he saw on arrival.

‘It was chaos, there were people and vehicles everywhere. It is a busy junction,’ he said.

PC Simon spoke to the driver of the car involved.

‘The gentleman was very shaken, but he had no injuries.’

Some of the people who were nearby had helped out as best they could, he said.

‘A retired police officer who was nearby had rushed to the accident: his police training kicked in. He updated me on my arrival and then helped by directing traffic.’

‘The car driver was also very thankful to two postmen who were first on the scene,’ he said.

PC Simon took photographs of the vehicles involved to piece together a report.

‘The investigation into what happened is ongoing. Statements have to be taken. I took photos in the hope that they may help substantiate somebody’s story.’togier@guernsey-press.com
